Description

Getting legal aid assessments right every time is not easy, and it’s a constant worry for contract holders. The Family Mediation Trust has held a Legal Aid contract since its founding in the early 1980s. Drawing on his extensive experience, the service’s PPC, Craig Brooks, will deliver this 3-hour course to help participants build confidence in the core elements of assessment, as well as understand some of the more complex areas.

The course will focus on:

  • Key principles of assessment: income, savings and equity
  • Gathering the correct evidence
  • Important questions to ask when making a booking
  • Passporting benefits
  • Undertaking the assessment
  • Completing the form
  • Challenging client types: student and self employed

This course is ideal for newly trained or accredited mediators, as well as for administrative team members. Experienced mediators who would like a refresher on Legal Aid would also benefit from the session.
