Starting the process of separation can feel daunting, particularly when you are also trying to understand the systems and processes involved. The resources below are a good place to begin.
Courtney is a free, audio-visual family law library covering around 60 family law topics, explained through short videos, animations and audio explainers in plain English rather than legal jargon. The Family Mediation Trust has partnered with Courtney, and if your case moves from a MIAM into mediation, your mediator will give you a free link to the platform. It is entirely optional, but many people find it a useful way to build their understanding between sessions.
Advice Now have produced a range of Survival Guides to help you understand the processes, the systems, and what outcome you may realistically be able to achieve.
If you also want to speak to a solicitor alongside mediation, Resolution's directory lists family law professionals who have signed up to a constructive, non-confrontational approach, and lets you filter by location, specialism and whether they offer legal aid, fixed fees or free consultations.
If you'd like to talk any of this through, contact us on 01603 620588, or ask your mediator.
