The Family Mediation Trust has released its Annual Report and Accounts for 2024–25, marking another successful year of growth and national recognition. We were honoured to be named Legal Aid Provider of the Year at the National Mediation Awards 2024, a powerful endorsement of our mission to make family mediation accessible for everyone – especially those supported by legal aid.
Across Norfolk, Suffolk, and Cambridgeshire, our mediators have continued to deliver high-quality conflict resolution services, supporting over 1,100 families this year – a 5.7% increase. Each of these families received expert guidance to resolve disputes, reduce stress, and prioritise their children’s wellbeing.
Despite continuing challenges in the legal aid system, we remain deeply committed to ensuring that access to justice does not depend on income. Our team has worked tirelessly to uphold the principles of fairness, accessibility, and child-centred practice, even as funding pressures continue to test the sustainability of free or subsidised services.
The Trust continues to campaign nationally for better support for legal aid mediation, emphasising its vital role in easing pressure on family courts and improving outcomes for separating parents and their children.
Our Centre for Excellence in Family Mediation has led several groundbreaking projects this year, including Parenting Coordination and the creation of a new Domestic Abuse Screening Tool in partnership with the Family Mediation Council. These initiatives are setting national standards for innovation and best practice in family dispute resolution.
None of our success would be possible without the dedication of our mediators, administrative staff, trustees, and partner organisations. Your professionalism, compassion, and teamwork continue to define the Trust’s values.
As we look forward, the Family Mediation Trust remains focused on its core mission: to make family mediation accessible to all, strengthen families through understanding, and keep children’s voices at the heart of every decision.
