Legal aid assessments for family mediation can be a challenging process for new mediators, administrators and experienced mediators. This course will provide a full overview of the processes of legal aid and explore many of the common pitfalls that services' can fall into.

Getting legal aid assessments correct every time is a not easy and a constant worry to all contract holders. The Family Mediation Trust has held a Legal aid Contract from its founding days in the early 1980's. Using their extensive experience, the services PPC, Jane Bridge, will deliver this three hour course to ensure participants have improved confidence of the fundamental elements of assessment, as well as, an understanding of some of the more complex elements. 

The course will focus on:

  • Key principles of assessment; income, savings and equity
  • Gathering the correct evidence
  • Important questions to ask when making a booking
  • Passporting benefits.
  • Undertaking the assessment
  • Completing the form
  • Challenging client types; student and self employed

This course is ideal for newly trained or accredited mediators as well as for admin team members. Experienced mediators who would like a refresher on legal aid would also benefit from the session.
